Birkenhead Town Hall in Wirral will come alive for Animated Square as part of its celebrations as Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture for 2019.
The Grade II* listed building will be the canvas for an incredible 3D projection on Saturday 23rd March inspired by the story of the town, which attracted thousands of people when it was first shown last year.
An accompanying free family festival will provide entertainment and build the excitement in the build-up to the projection. Visitors will be able to enjoy circus performers, wonderful character encounters and stunning illumination around the square.
The Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture (BoC) award was introduced by the Combined Authority in 2018 as part of the 1% for Culture programme – an annual commitment to spend the equivalent of 1% of devolution funding from central government to support cultural activities. It isn’t a competitive award but rotates around the city region (St Helens, Wirral, Sefton, Halton, Knowsley, and Liverpool) on an annual basis, with the aim of encouraging each borough to collaboratively develop its local talent and potential, and generate cultural activities across the region.
