Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and technology Liz Kendall have backed Liverpool’s bid to become European Capital of Innovation, in a letter to Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram.

Ahead of tomorrow’s final announcement in Turin, the letter references “the European Innovation Council’s recognition of Liverpool’s dedication to building an innovation-driven ecosystem, serving as a model of sustainable and inclusive urban development across Europe.”
Liverpool is in the final three in the competition, alongside Grenoble Alpes Métropole and Rotterdam. No UK city has ever won this award.
