Mayor Steve Rotheram’s statement on yesterday’s tragic events in Southport
“It is hard to put into words the horror, anger and hurt today’s awful attack has left us all feeling. These were young people with their whole lives ahead of them. What was meant to be a carefree dance class has been visited by unspeakable evil.
“My thoughts are with the victims and their families during this impossible time. We will do whatever we can to support them through the difficult hours, days and months ahead.
“Thank you, as ever, to the first responders and hospitals who have provided outstanding care in the most difficult of circumstances. Above all, thank you to the local community for opening their doors and their hearts in the immediate aftermath, supporting the victims and aiding those guarding the scene.
“We are one Liverpool City Region and we will overcome.”
