Steve Rotheram visited Wirral last night for the latest in his series of Metro Mayor’s Question Time events where he spoke to residents on a wide range of issues.

Held at Wirral Met College’s Conway Park Campus in Birkenhead, the event was chaired by the College’s Principal Sue Higginson, and also featured Wirral Council Leader Phil Davies.

Speaking after the event, Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram said:

“One of the most important elements of my role is listening to the issues that are important to people across the whole of the City Region.

“I am very grateful to all of the hardy souls who braved a freezing evening to come out and ask my views on a wide range of subjects, ranging from tunnel tolls and local bus routes, to housing, to how we can boost cultural activities on the Wirral, to specific local issues such as the Eastham Walk-In Centre, reopening in January after a vociferous local campaign.

“Giving people the opportunity to hold local politicians like me to account is a vital part of a vibrant democracy and I look forward to coming back again for more sessions like this in the future.”

Sue Higginson, Principal of Wirral Met College, said:

Phil Davies, Leader of Wirral Council, said:

“It is really important that the Metro Mayor maintains a really good understanding of issues in all of the six boroughs, including Wirral.  I certainly make sure that he is kept informed but there is no substitute for hearing directly from local residents.”
