Mersey Tidal-Project Assistant- Student Placement-

£17,977

September 2019 – September 2020

BACKGROUND

We in the Liverpool City Region have taken a historic step, securing a devolution agreement that brings real, local policy making and investment powers.  The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is growing a team of professional, engaged individuals to deliver our vision for an inclusive, globally competitive city region at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse.

We have a unique opportunity right now; the City Region is upgrading its economic infrastructure, linked to Northern Powerhouse Rail, HS2 and improved local connectivity; we are growing, with a strong base of innovative and resilient SMEs; and an unrivalled quality of life proposition based on cultural intensity and affordable living costs.  Yet, like all post-industrial cities, we need to work hard to ensure the benefits reach all citizens.

We have established a Strategic Investment Fund (“SIF”) to administer our devolved funding and deliver our emerging policy priorities, which we are capturing in our emerging Local Industrial Strategy, Spatial Development Strategy, Housing Strategy and Mayoral Transport Plan.  We expect to invest more than £500m in the next four years, across transport, housing, skills and adult education, business growth, innovation, land and property and the social economy, in projects which support our inclusive economy agenda.

We also develop large scale projects capable of transforming the City Region’s economy.  Current, major projects include a nationally significant tidal energy range on the Mersey, a fibre loop for the whole City Region and a “One Front Door” inward investment service.

OPPORTUNITY

The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority are looking for an engineering student to support the development of the Mersey Tidal Power project in Liverpool which has the potential to be one of the UK’s largest renewable energy projects.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about supporting the vision and aims of Liverpool City Region Combined Authority; who have high personal motivation and show a willingness to go the extra mile for the team.  This placement is designed to take you as a talented, undergraduate student and give you real responsibility, training and exposure to this exciting and transformational project.

This role is part of an intensive project development programme, designed to take you as a talented undergraduate student and give you real responsibility, training and exposure to development of a utility scale renewable energy project.  Our offer is exposure to diverse industries and sectors and a steep learning curve that can lead to advancement in the public or private sectors; and a purposeful role in a supportive, skilled team.

Key Responsibilities include supporting the development, assessment, and management of the Mersey tidal project by:
