What is LCR Connect?

LCR Connect is a 214km full-fibre, ultrafast, gigabit-capable network, helping the region to become the most digitally connected area in the country. It equips businesses, investors, universities, schools, hospitals, residents and students across the six local authorities, allowing them to access next-generation, future-proofed and cloud-enabled technologies.

It also puts City Region businesses in a prime position to lead the way in a host of growing sectors, from health and life sciences, Artificial Intelligence, virtual and augmented reality and advanced manufacturing – driving business growth and investment.

Launch event

On 23rd February 2024 Mayor Steve Rotheram heralded a new digital era for the Liverpool City Region as he celebrated the completion of the area’s flagship LCR Connect project.

Mayor Rotheram was joined at a special celebration, hosted by the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) at Sci-Tech Daresbury, by some of the 350 local companies already benefitting from LCR Connect. The national science and innovation campus is home to the Hartree Centre, whose purpose is to unlock the high growth potential of advanced digital technologies for UK industry.
