LCR Cares fund closing in fast on the half million pound mark
A new crowdfunding campaign to raise £1million to support community and voluntary organisations on the frontline of helping the city region’s communities cope with the impact of Coronavirus, is almost half way to its target after just one week.
LCR Cares COVID-19 Community Fund has jumped from £250k to nearly £450k.
The new total includes generous donations of £50,000 from Liverpool City Region-based retailer Home Bargains, and a further £123,250 from the National Emergencies Trust, as well as scores of smaller donations from individuals.
On Friday last week (3/4/20) the LCR Cares Fund paid out its first grants, with £75,000 going to 17 organisations across the Liverpool City Region.
Speaking about the new total, Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said: “It’s great to see LCR Cares get off to such a flying start, both in terms of how much it has raised, and how quickly we’ve also seen the money going back out to support our community heroes, right across our city region. The fund is already making a difference to some of our most vulnerable people and I’d encourage everyone to give what they can, if they are able, to support these amazing organisations.”
LCR Cares, set up in partnership with the Community Foundation for Merseyside, a registered charity, is awarding grants to support community organisations providing vital services like foodbanks; food and care packages to vulnerable people, friendship and support to help reduce isolation, emotional and mental health services, and benefit/debt advice.
