Fashion on demand means City Region business can take on the big players
One Show and This Morning highlight Make Thread and their mission to change the fashion industry with Future Innovation Fund backing
City Region support and an ingenious business idea are providing a risk-free route to market for ambitious fashion designers.
Make Thread – the brainchild of entrepreneurs – Sarah O’Brien and Katie Roche – is taking on the industry’s big players with a unique combination of design, e-commerce and social media.
‘’Only when a designer reaches a target for orders, do we start to manufacture,’’ said co-founder Sarah O’Brien. “So, we only produce fashion when there’s a demand for it.
“We were fortunate to win backing from the Future Innovation Fund and that support has been huge.
“We’re heading in the right direction and small tech companies like us are being recognised.”
The business even launched a spin-off during the pandemic when their ‘Design for Kindness’ campaign asked the community to create designs that inspired kindness in Lockdown.
“It was all about supporting each other. We had a great response and our clothes were featured on The One Show and This Morning,” said Sarah.
