May elections 2021 – Election of a Metro Mayor
Combined Authority Mayor for the Liverpool City Region election – 6th May 2021
On Thursday 6 May 2021 there will be an election held across the Liverpool City Region.
The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Mayor – sometimes known as the Metro Mayor – leads the Combined Authority, which takes decisions on issues that impact on people living and working across the City Region.
The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority covers the local authority areas of Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral.
Electing a Liverpool City Region Mayor was part of the Devolution Agreement signed by the Government and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. As well as agreeing to a directly elected Combined Authority Mayor, the Devolution Agreement secured more than £900m of funding for the City Region over 30 years. The Devolution Agreement devolved decision making around key priorities to the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
The Mayor, as the Chair of the Combined Authority, is responsible for the decision making and funding control for a number of priority areas across the Liverpool City Region including transport, employment and skills, business support and other areas.
