Social tariffs

What is a social tariff?

Social tariffs are discounted broadband and mobile deals for people on eligible benefits.

Accessing reliable and affordable broadband isn’t always easy. We’re here to help you make the most of the best broadband tariffs available to our city region’s residents.

How can it help me?

  • It’s cheaper than a regular package and saves you money. Current prices range from £10 to £20 a month
  • If you or someone in your household claims Universal Credit or some other eligible benefits below, you could switch to any of the tariffs available
  • It could cost nothing to switch. If your provider offers a social tariff, you can switch to it at any time, free of charge
  • You’ll pay next-to-nothing to get set up. If you do have to pay any setup costs, these should only be small. Your provider should tell you before you sign up
  • It costs nothing to leave. You won’t pay a fee to leave the tariff before the end of your contract

Who is eligible?

This differs on the internet provider, but if you or a member of your households is currently in receipt of any of the following you should be eligible:

  • Jobseeker’s allowance
  • Universal credit
  • Employment and support allowance
  • Disability allowance
  • Pension credit
  • Personal independence payment
