£3m Investment in Grade A Office Space Could Create More than 100 New Jobs for Birkenhead

Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has approved £3m of grant-funding that could create up to 113 new jobs in a 34,000 sq foot Grade A office development on a key site in Wirral Waters.

The investment would enable the No 1 Tower Road South development to go ahead and continue the regeneration of the Four Bridges area.

The £3m investment is from the Local Growth Fund.  Local Growth Funding is awarded to the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and invested by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority through its Strategic Investment Fund.

Wirral Waters, owned by Peel L&P, is an ambitious regeneration initiative to transform the 500-acre Birkenhead docklands into a mixed-use waterside city extension.  This project will create a distinct and flexible workspace providing opportunity for existing local businesses to grow and for new businesses to locate in the Wirral Waters Enterprise Zone.

Delivery of the masterplan is underway. Wirral Metropolitan College has moved into one development, completed by Peel – its £10.5m, RIBA Award-winning built environment campus, with the second development built and occupied by The Contact Company, being the 48,000 sq ft Tower Wharf building.

Peel L&P will be responsible for the delivery of the three-storey, BREEAM Excellent office complex.  The building will target indigenous businesses and inward investors looking to either relocate or who require modern floorspace options to facilitate their growth.  The building could accommodate up to 113 net new jobs.

Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said: “We are here to build an inclusive economy that works for everyone in our city region.  Supporting this project will help to breathe new life into Birkenhead’s docklands and generate jobs and opportunities for local people, which is what we’re all about.”
